Prince George’s County is one of the more affluent majority-minority counties in the United States. Located outside Washington, D.C., it has seen periods of development with the building of the National Harbor, which sits on the Potomac River. The county has a very diverse population, both racially and economically, with a large Latino population in the northern part of the county, in cities such as Langley Park.

Prince George’s County Public Schools is located outside Washington, D.C. The school system, which is made up of over 125,000 students, is the second largest in Maryland and among the 25 largest school systems in the United States (PGCPS Facts and Figures, n.d.). As development has increased various schools have been newly built or renovated, with the latest renovation being Oxon Hill High School, which is located in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
